NO JOY FOR U12s V KILLEAGH

Under 12 B League Castlemartyr 01 -02 Killeagh 07 - 01 Last Friday evening near neighbors Killeagh provided the opposition for our u12 girls opening home league match. From the throw in Castlemartyr won the breaking ball and were on the attack with Aisling McCarthy and Lucy Foley causing trouble for Killeagh's defense. After both teams had chances go narrowly wide a free was awarded to Castlemartyr in the 9th minute Aisling steadied herself over the ball and sent in a probing shot which managed to find itself all the way to the back of the net to opening the scoring. With continued pressure on Killeagh's goal another wide was quickly followed by a point again scored by Aisling. Killeagh responded well. They powered up the pitch and soon had a brace of goals before Castlemartyr countered with Lucy scoring a sublime point from well out the field in the 20th minute. Killeagh again raised the green flag just before the short whistle to leave us trailing 01 -02 to Killeagh's 3 goals at half time. The second half began as the first end with the visitors again finding the back of the net in their first attack. Despite the valiant efforts of Allannah Newlands, Muireann Coughlan and Kate Butler in the center of the field Killeagh seemed to have found their form and peppered Castlemartyr's goal with shot after shot. A huge effort was put in by our defence of Chloe Lane, Ruby McGrath and Caoimhe Murphy and credit to them for not giving up but Killeagh's incessant pressure added another 4 goals and a point to their score. Castlemartyr had a number of their own attacking chances but a combination of excellent goalkeeping from Killeagh's goal stopper and a sturdy defense prevented us from scoring in the second half. It was a tough opening game in the league but one the girls will learn from and no doubt build upon for their next outing against Douglas.
