VICTORY FOR UNDER 12s

Our u12s were in action again on Friday 27th as they headed away to meet opponents, Douglas. With great enthusiasm these u12s, ably assisted by u11s, took to the pitch and worked the ball from the start. Douglas proved to be strong opponents but Castlemartyr stood fast in the tackles and hooked at every opportunity and that made the difference. Juliet Cahill never let the side down whether in defence or later in attack putting in her own strong performance. Alannah Newlands in goal kept the side in the game and also worked so hard when she shifted position to outfield. Kate Butler scored a great point from a free when she put the ball dead centre between the uprights just when the team needed a lift. Scores were hard won on both sides and Douglas led for a lot of the game, but by no more than a point or two.

The match opened up for Castlemartyr in the second half but the scores still proved difficult to come by. Following two attempts and half the team in the goalmouth the ball eventually went in the back of the net giving Castlemartyr the only goal of the match and a one point lead. This effort by the team gave them the win as there was little time left for the opposition to mount any further serious attempts to score. The girls deserved this win having used their skills to best advantage. Special mention to all the under 11s, Ruby, Chloe, Millie and both Lillys who all worked so hard for the team. Team : Leah Peadar Duggan (Captain), Chloe O Dwyer, Yvonne Abernethy, Roisin Kelly, Caoimhe Murphy, Juliet Cahill, Alannah Newlands, Lucy Foley, Kate Butler, Meadhbh McCarthy, Ruby McGrath, Chloe Lane, Millie Bowels, Lilly Foley & Lilly Fitzpatrick Dorgan. (Ella Fleming & Ciara O Dwyer unable to play due to previous injuries).
