Castlemartyr 04 - 03. Dungourney 03 - 04
Following on from their victory over Douglas, their next encounter was a home fixture against fellow parishioners Dungourney three days later. In similar conditions experienced by the u14s the previous night, evening sunshine warmed the girls as they took to the field. Castlemartyr again began strongly and within 5 minutes had found the back of the visitors net with a great shot from Leah Pedder Duggan. Dungourney mounted their own attack and soon had equalised, and then added another goal, 2 minutes later. With fierce tackling and harrying for every loose ball it wasn't long before we got our just rewards with another goal. Dungourney scored the first point of the game just as the first half drew to a close to leave our girls trailing by a single point.
Substitutions were made, positions switched and the second half began. Within the first minute Castlemartyr had raised the green flag. This was quickly followed by Dungourney scoring a brace of points. Our girls countered quickly and after a lot of hard work by our forwards forcing Dungourney's goalkeeper into making a number of impressive saves eventually found the back of the net again. The visitors again pointed before Castlemartyr got two of their own which were scored after a period of good possession play. With four minutes to play Dungourney scored their third goal leaving them trailing by only a single point. From Meadbh McCarthy's massive puck out we again gathered the ball in midfield and worked it well into our forwards. Anna Knowles offloaded the ball to Kate Butler and she cooly slotted it over the bar. This was to be the last score of this thoroughly entertaining game.
