Under 14 Championship First Round Ballinhassig 01 - 02 Castlemartyr 01 - 04 ( after extra time )
On Sunday evening we were on the road again. This time with our under 14 girls to take on Ballinhassig in their first round championship match. Thankfully the earlier rain had abated and the sun was shining but conditions underfoot would prove to be a huge factor in the game. Both sides struggled to have any fluidity to their play and although we created a number a scoring chances the first half ended without either side registering a score. The second half continued in the same vein. We again squandered chances but we did manage to score a point and a goal as did our opposition. Ballinhassig had a chance in the dying seconds to convert a close in free to win the game but thankfully the ball drifted to the right and wide. The full time whistle was blown so we had extra time to look forward to. The girls realised that the game was there for the winning if they wanted it badly enough. Although they were exhausted from their efforts, they rallied and took to the field with renewed vigour. Their determination and work rate eventually saw them over the line and in the end thoroughly deserved their hard fought win.
