On Saturday we travelled to Midleton, on their invitation, to take part in the inaugural tournament organised and hosted by Midleton Camogie. Originally there were to be 6 teams competing, but due to 2 teams cancelling we ended up playing teams from Nemo Rangers, Midleton and Sars. Our first match was against Nemo where we won on a score line of 04 - 03 to 02 - 01. Next up were the hosts, Midleton. This match was played with great intensity and spirit as the sides were not only very evenly matched but girls on both teams would be well known to each other as classmates and friends and bragging rites were as important as the points earned for the win. We again prevailed on a score line of 02 -03 to 01 - 02. With 2 wins under our belt we were guaranteed a place in the cup final. We faced Sars in our final match where we again were victorious with an impressive score of 06 - 06 to no score. With one win apiece already Midleton and Nemo played out a very close game with Nemo just edging it by the tightest of margins to book their place also in the cup final. After 3 hard matches we enjoyed a well deserved break for some sustenance and this also gave the girls an opportunity to visit some local salons for the beginning of their preparations for our social being held later that evening. Thanks to Midleton Camogie for the tea, coffee sandwiches and cakes that were greatly appreciated by players, mentors and spectators alike. With everybody fed and watered teams again took to the field for the finals. Midleton and Sars contested the shield final with the hosts winning after a very evenly contested game. We took to the field to face Nemo Ranges once again in the final match of the tournament. We began strongly and had amassed three goals in quick succession after great tactical play from the girls getting useful ball to our full forward line who in turn ruthlessly got maximum return. At half time we led by 03 -01 to 00 - 01. Players were rotated and again we began the second half strongly although Nemo made us work hard for all our scores. We scored another 01 - 02 to Nemo's single point in the second to have us run out winners on a score line of 04 - 03 to 00 - 02. The girls gave a fantastic performance across the 4 matches and thoroughly deserved their victory. Well done to Dermot and everyone involved.
