U14B Championship Second Round Castlemartyr 05-06 Douglas 01-06 We welcomed Douglas to Castlemartyr for our second round game in the county championship. We had a full squad bar one and there was great competition between the girls for the much sought after starting positions. Douglas began well and a had registered their first point within the first three minutes. There were a lot of battles going on all over the pitch with neither side willing to give way. Aisling McCarthy converted a free in the ninth minute which was shortly followed by a second from the hurley of Lilly Hayes Nally. We didn't get our first score from play 'till Leah Pedar Duggan dispatched a well taken shot over the bar in the 18th minute. Pressure began to mount on Douglas's defence and we were rewarded when Juliet Cahill pounced on a loose ball and found the back of the net with a scorching ground shot. Douglas then added another point to their score from play. We finished the stronger and added another brace of points from play again from Aisling and Lilly to leave us leading by six points at half time. Douglas began well again after the restart and had raised the white flag inside the opening two minutes. From our resultant puck out the ball made its way up the field and into the hand of our full forward Muireann Coughlan. Using her strength and ability she beat her marker with only one thing on her mind. With confidence she took her shot and despite the goalies best efforts couldn't be denied her goal. Aisling's third point was bookended by a couple from Douglas before Lilly added a goal to her tally with a blistering shot after a meandering run from the forty five all the way to thirteen meter line. Douglas raised the green flag themselves shortly afterwards but we added another two goals of our own before Douglas got the last score of the game with a well taken point. A well deserved win for our girls after a good, hard working display for every one of the team.
