Minor A League, Castlemartyr V Newcestown, Wednesday April 19th

In the Minor A League we welcomed Newcestown to Castlemartyr this evening for a spirited and fast paced encounter. We opened the scoring within the first few minutes with a point from a well taken free. This was soon cancelled out by the visitors when they raised the white flag at the opposite end.

After 15 minutes the score was tied for a fourth time with both sides earning 01-02 a piece. In the closing stages of the first half Newcestown put over four points without reply to go in at the short whistle ahead. Soon after the resumption they struck again with an expertly taken goal from a flick in mid air of an incoming shot which found the back of the net.

We responded with three points on the trot to bring it back to a four point game. Not to be outdone, Newcestown responded with a trio of white flags of their own. Never giving up our girls scored 01-02 in the space of three minutes to reduce the deficit to two points with five minutes to play.

Both sides had scoring chances in the closing of the game and it was the visitors who did get the last point of the game.

Well done to all involved who provided an entertaining game of camogie and thanks to the appreciative spectators for supporting our girls!
