Castlemartyr Camogie U12s traveled to face Brian Dillons on Tuesday evening 7th June in another of their league fixtures. After losing the opening game of their league campaign and winning the next two, the girls were eager to build on their success. Alannah Murphy captained the team on the night and won the toss, although it mattered little which direction they chose to play as it was a fine evening with a little breeze not affecting the play. Castlemartyr started out with the determination you would expect at this stage of the competition and it wasn't long before they were putting their stamp on the game. Yvonne Abernethy took up position between the posts for the first half and was ably assisted by the back line of Ella Fleming, Ruby McGrath, Alannah Murphy and Muireann Coughlan. This impressive line up gave little room for Brian Dillons forwards to create any chance in the half. Caoimhe Murphy, Kate Butler and Chloe O'Dwyer delivered the scores in the forwards and while Roisin Kelly put a beautiful flight on the ball, it was taken as a wide. By the end of the first half Castlemartyr had scored 1-3 to Brian Dillons no score. The second half though opened the game right up as Brian Dillons came back on the pitch looking determined. They indeed took the game in hand and were fighting for every ball. While Juliet Cahill was leaving the pitch due to injury, the opponents scored their first goal. Between them Lily Fitzpatrick Dorgan and Ruby McGrath filled the void left by Juliet in the forward line . Yvonne took up a midfield position and continued her strong performance alongside Aisling McCarthy. However, despite the efforts and the tireless work of Alannah Newlands and Ella Fleming, Brian Dillons put another goal past the keeper. There was insufficient time to pull it all back together and attempts to score did not succeed. When the final whistle went, the ref reported a draw.
