U12s CONTINUE THEIR WINNING STREAK

U12 B County League Castlemartyr 02 - 02 Cobh 01 - 01 On Saturday morning we welcomed Cobh to our ground for the last of the league matches. Although it was 11.00am on the 2nd day of July weather conditions resembled a cool evening in October with dark clouds in the sky and a cool breeze blowing around the pitch. Spectators with umbrellas at the ready cheered on the girls as the ball was thrown in. Yvonne Abernethy and Lucy Foley soon let the opposition know who was boss and continued to dominate play in the middle of the field through out the game. Chloe O'Dwyer, Kate Butler and Juliet Cahill piled pressure on Cobh's defence along with Aisling Lewis and Gráinne Steele. Kate had raised the white flag within the first minute and Yvonne came close with three more attempts going narrowly wide before Cobh equalised in the 14th minute from a free. Castlemartyr quickly responded and Chloe Lane restored our one point advantage. When a shot from Chloe O'Dwyer was saved, Juliet pounced on the breaking ball and supplied Chloe Lane with the vital pass. Cobh went on to score their only goal as the half drew to a close to leave them leading at half time by 2 points. Castlemartyr continued to dominate in the second half creating the lion's share of chances and had another 4 wides before Juliet found the back of Cobh's net after incessant pressure from our forwards. 5 minutes later Chloe O'Dwyer, after great support play from Monika Jurciukonyte, drilled in a shot which again found its mark for another 3 pointer. From then till the final whistle our girls never relented and continued to pressurize all over the pitch. Meadhbh McCarthy in goal stood tall and cleared any threat that the visitors posed. There were shouts of joy from players and supporters alike when the final whistle sounded. A thorough team performance gave the girls the win they deserved. They now qualify for the County B League Quarter Final to be played on Wednesday July 13th, opposition and venue to be confirmed.
